General expectations for graduate students

  • working in our labs during business hours, 9-5 pm or more, Monday to Friday, at a minimum. Desks are for literature research and writing in your lab notebook. Do not waste time on your phone or pointless browsing – you should be working on planning, running, or documenting experiments or lab maintenance.
  • contribute to a positive, productive, safe, and friendly lab environments
  • ask for and accept help, and help others
  • take your TA duties seriously – safety, grading, proctoring, and helping the students to learn. The labs you teach should only take a few hours away from an otherwise productive day in the laboratory
  • take your coursework seriously – it provides the background needed for successful research
  • attend all group, individual, and project meetings
  • submit reports on time
  • attend departmental colloquia, divisional colloquia, and any talks of your lab mates
  • stay on top of your academics and your program of study
  • follow slack for group communications
  • check your email

General expectations for undergraduate students

  • pretty much the same as graduate students except the hours accommodate your class schedule. If getting paid, make sure to stay within allocated hours. Do not log hours during group and other meetings.

Let me know in advance when you will be out of the lab.

Illness, etc.

Let me know if you can’t or shouldn’t work because you are sick, etc.
