The UV Ozone cleaner (UVO) is located in the shared instrument lab (SIL) in the far left fume hood.

  1. Open the UVO and place a microscope slide holding chips onto the metal surface, ensure that there is clearance to close the lid before closing with pressure, the lid should lock into place.
  2. Power on the machine and press and hold the Mode button until the red light changes from minutes/seconds to hours/minutes. Adjust time to clean as needed using the Increase or Decrease buttons, a typical cleaning should only need 30 minutes, but additional time is available.
  3. Ensure the oxygen tank is connect to the UVO, open the tank and adjust the flow so that a trickle of oxygen is released. Just enough so that if you press your finger to the nozzle you feel a slight pressure. Reconnect the tubing after adjusting flow (generally only the final valve needs to be adjusted, the main regulator valve is already at a very low pressure).
  4. Press Start on the machine, the green light will illuminate while running. Allow to run for desired time.
  5. If still running when you return, press the Stop button, open the lid, and remove chips. The slide will be somewhat hot, use caution so as not to drop the chips.
  6. Power off the UVO. Remember to shut off the oxygen valve, it will be empty for next time if you do not.

* Sometimes the power in the fume hood is finicky, you may need to try a different outlet.
