This procedure is intended to be done regularly (every 1-2 months) and whenever the transfer quality of troughs is becoming poor.
NOTE:
- Always use Millipore Water. This is available on the first floor of CB through the keycard access doors.
- Use polyethylene (PE) gloves when handling the trough.
- The barriers are not safe in chloroform, only use chloroform for the trough itself.
Instructions:
- Add 1 drop dish detergent to 500mL Millipore water, fill the trough and scrub clean with kimwipes. Q-tips are effective at cleaning the corners and the trough reservoir. Rinse with water, then repeat this process a few times.
- Rinse heavily with Millipore water at least 10 times, then fill trough with optima grade chloroform (stored in the glovebox room usually). Place trough in fume hood and allow to soak for 10-15 minutes. Dump chloroform in halogenated waste.
- Scrub trough with chloroform coated kimwipes.
- Rinse again with Millipore water, multiple times, blow dry with nitrogen gas.
- To clean barriers, scrub heavily with anhydrous ethanol soaked kimwipes, rinse with Millipore water heavily.
